Political science Message: The events of September 11th should not have resulted in war against Iraq.
Subliminal message: George W Bush is an evil warmongerer.

ReplyDeleteI think more worrying than films of this kind, which are all obviously propaganda, is the subversion of once quasi-objective periodicals to the cause of fearmongering you refer to a few posts back. I am thinking in particular of New Scientist and National Geographic, which to my perception were much less propagandistic a decade ago.
ReplyDeleteObviously propaganda?? I have heard reputable reporters and scientists call these "documentaries". I have only heard the word "propaganda" from the fringes. Like you, I have found those magazines more propagandistic hence less readable also. New scientist seems subliminally pro-green. National geographic irritated me somewhat just by being subliminally secular humanist. I only ever read it for the pictures anyway.

Heh, so long as film makers continue to use Lord of the Rings to shine a light on the biases of so called documentaries, I shall maintain faith that our civilisation is not doomed.
