I just couldn't help snickering to myself as the level 5 water restrictions were announced recently. Move to North East Qld, I thought. I hope there's such a huge exodus of businesses and people, that their land valuations go down....
It was always a little bit hurtful during Townsville's droughts that we were nicknamed "Brownsville". Maybe Brisbane should be nicknamed Brisbrown?

I did post a comment earlier in the weekend, but it got et. I think these irrational 'share the pain' water restrictions are going to cause a lot of local economic harm and, but will also hasten the process of adaptation to any climate change by ushering people out of drying areas. Last time I was in Toowoomba I remember hearing an ad for a new housing estate on the radio lauding the fact that it was in the neighbouring Shire of Warwick, where you could actually water your lawn and wash your car! And only 40 minutes from Toowoomba! ;)
Maybe. I remember some crazy dreams when I was younger that Brisbane would shrink, and Townsville would end up the state's capital. The water situation starts to make it sound plausible. Perhaps, though, the water will be piped South as the people move North until equilibrium is reached.
